The Frenchie Connection
Thairin and I were intrigued enough to attend the American Idol Meltdown/Double Standard Rally Tuesday morning, examining the issue of Idol's treatment of Frenchie Davis, booted for her racy photos on a porn site, while this year's finalist Antonella Barba remains on the show despite similar sexy photos. I imagined it to be a huge race relations/censorship row, with people rioting and throwing shopping carts through windows of the Kodak Theater. Thairin and I came armed with pitchforks to wave, ready to bay for Antonella's blood (neither of us watch Idol, but we are easily swayed by a mob). Alas, it turned out to be two spokespeople ("Frenchie couldn't make it"), a Frenchie MySpace friend in a Frenchie T-shirt, a sorry gaggle of local radio journalists, and a curious homeless man. We hung around for a bit, ditched the pitchforks, and left.
