Voodoo Child

Thecages-1

Voodoocover-1Comic book freak Nicolas Cage and his 16-year-old comic-book freak son, Weston, are about to launch Voodoo Child, their six-issue series from Virgin Comics. Cage the elder, who has a Hell Rider tattoo on his arm, said he had no ideas for a book when Virgin approached him, "but I told them my son might." Turns out Weston had been toying with an idea ever since seeing the damage Katrina wrought in New Orleans, where he and his father often lived. Set in New Orleans after the hurricane, Voodoo Child is the story of a kid who's murdered in the antebellum South by secessionist soldiers and before he dies he puts a voodoo curse on his soul, which leaves him in a netherworld to cope with gang violence and abductions in the modern city. India-based Virgin Comics was created by Deepak Chopra, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, and Richard Branson. Cage says Voodoo Child is "more spiritual than, say, a Superman or a Batman. That's always been more effective because there's more believability to it." (USA Today)
