Days of Our Lives backing off gay storyline?Monday, August 15, 2011 10:20 AM
I received this mysterious missive the other day: "Word on the soap street is that Days is nixing the Will Horton/ Gays of our Lives storyline. It sounds like the powers that be have decided to give Sonny another love interest - one that isn't quite so steeped in Days history (I guess so that the writers aren't anchored with a permanent gay character in case all the homophobic crazies cause a ruckus and they need to quickly placate them by laying the gay storyline to rest). Would love to read your thoughts on this since you've been following it." My thoughts? MY THOUGHTS? I HATE IT, I'm SUICIDAL, I'm going to throw myself off the ROOF OF THE WOW BUILDING, those are my THOUGHTS. I NOTICED something was fishy last week when, after much dithering and prevaricating, Will and Gabi made love for the first time, and (as she says at the 9:25 mark) IT WAS WONDERFUL. Whaaaat? (*record scratch*) It was WONDERFUL? With that big old queen? Noooo. Please nooo. Does that mean we are doomed to the het horror of "Willabi" from NOW UNTIL THE END OF TIME? The two of them billing and cooing while poor Sonny macs on some new guy we don't care about. I mean, frankly, we don't REALLY care about Sonny as it is. HE'S the new guy. So why would we care about him and someone ELSE we don't know? And so what if people object to their beloved Will being gay? If the pressure gets too much they can always kill Sonny and have Will become one of those neutered and sexless television gays who listens to all the heterosexuals' problems and helps the girls with their outfits. PLEASE do not back away from this, Days. Will is gay. You know it and we know it. I really believe this could really be Chandler Massey's time to shine. Let him become the gay icon we know he can be.
