Valentijn de Hingh, the latest transgender supermodel

Andrej WHO? Lea T WHAT? This week it's all about Valentijn de Hingh, the 21-year-old transgender model who's setting the fashion world on fire with her gorgeous angular features and willowy frame. She was discovered as an eight-year-old boy by Dutch filmmaker Hetty Niesch and filmed for what was originally a small piece on transgender youth. The director was so entranced by what he saw, he decided to focus solely on Valentijn and spent the next nine years documenting her growth and development. The finished film launched on Dutch television in 2007, just before her gender reassignment surgery. Valentijn then worked steadily, modeling for designers like Margiela and Commes des Garçons before quitting to enroll in the University of Amerstam to study literature science. Since the rise of transgender supermodels like Andrej Pejic and Lea T, though, she's decided to give modeling another chance. The more the merrier, right? I love that the fierce trannies are dominating the fashion world right now. If only Carmen Xtravaganza and Octavia St Laurent had lived to see the day. (via Fashionista)
