Chihuahuapalooza

The other day, while I was delivering our WOW holiday gifts, I heard a very interesting story on NPR about a recent epidemic here in Southern California & the Bay Area.  Our animal shelters have taken in an unusual amount of Chihuahuas in recent months.  Some are calling this Chihuahuapalooza, while others are dubbing it the Paris Hilton syndrome.  Apparently, Chihuahuas have been popularized  'round these parts due to celebrities like Ms. Hilton, and because of the breed's small size.  Most likely, the people buying these Chihuahuas thought of them as more of an accessory than as a living and breathing animal.  The overcrowding is most likely due to the turn for the worse that the economy has taken, as well as it being the holiday season.  So if you're thinking of gifting a puppy this year, might I suggest an adorable Chihuahua?  You could most likely get one at a local shelter!
