With just one more month left in its residency at the Broadhust on Broadway, the Jude Law-starring production of William Shakespeare's Hamlet is officially a popular and commercial hit, in case you were wondering. When it opened a in Sepetember, the reviews for Law's performance were wildly conflicting, from "flashy, frequently jocular and unsubtle" to "as intelligent as it is dynamic." Now it's reported that as of last week the West End import has, amazingly, recouped its initial $2.5 million investment. Nothing rotten about that. Hamlet is Law's second play in New York; he was Tony-nominated in 1995 for his Broadway debut in Jean Cocteau's Indiscretions. (via NYT)
