Don't Hold Your BreathMonday, June 15, 2009 06:12 AM tags: Equal Rights, obama
Obama sent his top gay, the director of the Office of Personnel Management, John Berry, out to do some damage control with an interview with The Advocate to try and quell the outrage over Obama’s inaction on LGBT rights and his atrocious DOJ defense of DOMA in which they made comparisons of gay marriage with incest. Not surprisingly he didn’t want to talk about the incest language of the DOJ DOMA defense. Instead Berry outlined a four-point list of rights that is basically a retread of Obama’s campaign promises, but added a new twist. Except for the possible passage of a Hate Crimes bill, none of those promises will probably see any real action until Obama’s second term. “Now, I’m not going to pledge – and nor is the president – that this is going to be done by some certain date. The pledge and the promise is that, this will be done before the sun sets on this administration – our goal is to have this entire agenda accomplished and enacted into law so that it is secure.” Berry said. The Advocate then asked if that meant it was being pushed back until a second term. To which Berry replied, “I say this in a broad sense – our goal is to get this done on this administration’s watch.” So it appears we have to get Obama elected to a second term before he will put any real effort into fulfilling the promises he made to get him elected in the first place.
