Celebs Do the Turkey TrotThursday, May 28, 2009 08:44 AM
When the Mardan Palace Hotel opened in Antalya, Turkey, over the weekend, a number of celebrities were paid $1.5 million each to attend, including Sharon Stone, Paris Hilton, Tom Jones, Seal, Richard Gere, and Monica Bellucci. The $1.65-billion hotel is quite luxe, with 23,000 square meters of Italian marble; 10,000 square meters of gold leaf; crystal balusters; Hermès crockery; a five-acre pool that allows nicely for 1,000 swimmers; 17 bars; a three-story nightclub; 10 restaurants; a sunken aquarium with 2,400 fish; a 7,500 square meter spa; and a beach with 9,000 tons of white sand flown in from Egypt. All this in Turkey. But according to Page Six, the lavishly paid celebrities didn't exert themselves much. Hilton refused to give interviews, Jones spent his time mashing on women, and Stone, who was to emcee the opening, had trouble reading words like "Azerbaijan" from the TelePromTer and ended up shrieking "Chaka Khan! Chaka Khan!" Oh, to have been there.
