Missing Link FoundTuesday, May 19, 2009 09:59 AM tags: Missing Link, Science
Darwinius masillae, a tiny creature that resembles a monkey and lived 47 million years ago, may be the link between lesser mammals and humans that has eluded scientists for centuries. Sir David Attenborough will host a BBC documentary on the discovery next week. “This little creature is going to show us our connection with the rest of all mammals," he says. "The link… is no longer missing.” The find was actually unearthed in the early 1980s in the Messel Pit near Darmstadt, Germany, but it wasn't until now that experts had the eureka moment because the skeleton had been split into halves and sold to separate collections.
