Gay Marriage Goes MainestreamThursday, April 30, 2009 12:51 PM tags: Equal Rights, Gay Marriage
A day after the New Hampshire Senate voted to pass a gay marriage bill, Maine's Senate has followed suit. New Hampshire's bill had already been approved by the House; its fate now rests in the hands of Governor John Lynch. Maine's bill, introduced by Senator Dennis Damon, faces a vote in the House next week. If it passes there, it must then be approved by Governor John Baldacci. Speaking about the bill at a public debate, Senator Damon proclaimed to a cheering crowd, "This bill is fair, this bill's time has come. It recognizes the worth and dignity of every man and every woman among us."
