Rihanna Painting Causing A CommotionFriday, March 27, 2009 12:22 PM
One of the paintings featured in tonight's NAME THAT 'TOON art opening is based on the infamous police photo of Rihanna's battered face. And it's causing quite a stir. Written about by Marc Malkin over at E! Online, and then picked up by Yahoo! News, artist Sham explains, "I thought the bruises in the police photo were interesting shapes to draw," he says. "And it was cool to color them pink and blue. Those are two of my favorite colors. There is no message to any of my art," he says. "It's meant to look cool hanging on your wall and that's it! I'm not into deep meanings." Commentators however think Sham's words belie a deeper meaning, as seen in the comment box below (click to enlarge). Come decide the painting's message for yourself at the "Name That Toon" opening tonight, Friday, March 27, at 8PM. The show runs through April 24. Admission is free. RSVP to gallery@worldofwonder.net for admission to the opening reception.
